REACH information of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' products

REACH = European regulation 1907/2006/EC concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals.

A conscientious handling of substances which are hazardous is second nature to OSRAM. It is a high ambition to avoid and reduce certain substances in products and processes above and beyond statutory regulations.Wherever this is not possible, we will inform our customers within the framework of the European regulation 1907/2006/EC concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).

Article 33 [1] regulates the customer information requirements, in case certain products or its packaging contain one or more of these substances in a concentration above 0.1 % weight per article. If this is the case, REACH requires contract manufacturers and distributors of such articles to provide their customers with "sufficient information, available to the supplier, to allow safe use of the article including, as a minimum, the name of that substance".

As independent of the REACH-Regulation, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors customers often request information on hazardous substances contained in our products, we in turn require our suppliers to disclose substance declarations and provide us with regular updates.

BOMcheck®

Due to the dynamic changes of the above mentioned regulations and customer expectations, regular updates of these declarations are essential. In order to be able to manage all information requirements, OSRAM decided to join the substance declaration web-hosted database BOMcheck® (www.BOMCheck.net).

BOMcheck® is offering a regulatory compliance tool mainly designed to enable suppliers to provide declarations of conformity with REACH, RoHS and other restricted substances legislation. The BOMcheck® system offers the following benefits for OSRAM suppliers:

  • Efficient and low cost method to demonstrate the compliance with legislation on hazardous substances including an electronic signature
  • Expert guidance to create substance declarations for the manufacturer parts lists
  • Keep up-to-date as new substances are added to RoHS and Annex XIV of REACH
  • Easily supply information not only to OSRAM but all the suppliers customers
  • Reducing the risk of regulatory non-compliance
  • Possibility for OSRAM to access supplier substance declarations directly from BOMcheck® which enables OSRAM to make compliance assessments of its products.

Your procured articles (not chemicals) from us are not intended to release any substance under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use. Therefore, Material Safety Data Sheets are not available, which are only necessary for hazardous substances and preparations. Our checking with our suppliers on the use of the substances in their products delivered to us has been on-going.

According to our current knowledge, no substances from the candidate list are present in our products as described by article 33
